Figgy Nut Crunch Trail Mix
Before you go running to the store, let me give you the inside scoop on the key ingredients:
Native to: Middle East & South Asia
Top 3 nutrients: healthy fats, vitamin E, magnesium
Whole raw or roasted almonds are recommended, but slivered works too!
Native to: Middle East, Central Asia & North America
Top 3 nutrients: healthy fats, protein, fiber
Walnut halves are ideal for adding substance to this trail mix, but crushed walnuts or smaller pieces work just as well—about 2 tablespoons per serving.
Native to: Europe & Western Asia (common plum)
Top 3 nutrients: vitamin C, fiber, vitamin K
I prefer to keep my dried pitted prunes whole, but feel free to chop them if you prefer. Just note that chopping is ideal if you plan to enjoy the mix within a couple of weeks, as it helps maintain the prunes’ quality and prevents the trail mix from becoming sticky.
Native to: Middle East & western Asia
Top 3 nutrients: fiber, potassium, calcium
Like the prunes, I prefer to keep my figs whole. However, if you plan to enjoy the mix soon, feel free to chop them if that’s your preference.
Top nutrients: manganese, calcium, iron (cinnamon)
I have yet to find cinnamon white chocolate in a store… which is crazy because it’s SO GOOD. Thankfully, it’s super easy to make at home! Grab some of your favourite white chocolate or a bag of white chocolate chips.Â

Storage Instructions
Here are some tips to help you maximize the shelf life of your Figgy Nut Crunch Trail Mix:
- Keep stored in a sealable container or bag
- Vacuum sealing can extend the shelf life by up to three times its normal duration! This is useful if you’re prepping lots for longer term use.Â
- Store in a cool, dry and dark place. For longer term storage, it’s recommended to keep stored in the freezer (especially if not vacuum sealed)
When you take these measures, your trail mix can last for several months, up to a few years!

Figgy Nut Crunch Trail Mix
Notable Equipment
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Metal or glass mixing bowl
- 1 cookie sheet, container or muffin tins (see instruction step 5)
- parchment paper
Ingredients
To make cinnamon white chocolate:
- 50 g white or blonde chocolate, bar, chunks or chips
- ¼-½ tsp cinnamon
For trail mix:
- ¼ cup almonds (about 12)
- 4-5 walnut halves
- 2-3 dried pitted prunes
- 1-2 dried figs
- 1 tbsp cinnamon white chocolate, or classic white chocolate
Instructions
To Make Cinnamon White Chocolate:
- 1. Chop the chocolate into fine chunks. Set aside. (omit if using chips)
- 2. Bring a saucepan of water to a gentle boil. Place the bowl on top of the simmering water. Note: The bowl should not be touching the water - remove some water if necessary.
- 3. Pour chocolate into the bowl. Over the gently simmering water, heat the chopped chocolate, stirring occasionally, until 3/4 melted. Be careful to not completely melt and overheat.
- 4. Remove the bowl from the saucepan and stir the chocolate until it is completely melted. Stir in the cinnamon until well combined.
- 5. Pour mixture into onto parchment lined pan or container (lined muffin tins also work). You want the chocolate to be spread, but not too thin - aim for about ¼" thick.
- 6. Chill in fridge until hardened (about 30 minutes)
- 7. Chop chocolate into chunks
- Note: you will have more chocolate than needed for a single serving of trail mix recipe (50g of chocolate yields about 4 tbsp of chopped chocolate)
Preparing Trail Mix:
- 1. Â Combine all ingredients in a bag or container and enjoy!
Notes
- You can skip making cinnamon white chocolate and just use plain white chocolate, however, the touch of cinnamon is WELL worth it.
- It's recommended to keep the figs and prunes whole to preserve their quality and freshness - and to avoid the trail mix from becoming sticky
