Tropical Hazelnut Trail Mix Ingredients

Before you go running to the store, let me give you the inside scoop on the key ingredients:

Hazelnuts

Native to: North America, Europe & Asia

Top 3 nutrients: healthy fats, vitamin E, magnesium

Whole raw or roasted hazelnuts are recommended, but chopped bits also work.

Almonds

Native to: Middle East & South Asia

Top 3 nutrients: healthy fats, vitamin E, magnesium

Whole raw or roasted almonds are recommended, but slivered works too!

Dried Kiwi

Native to: Central & Eastern China

Top 3 nutrients: vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium

I recommend using unsweetened dried kiwis, but feel free to use what you prefer. Dried kiwis can often be found in the natural/organic section of most grocery stores.

Dried Mango

Native to: South Asia

Top 3 nutrients: vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber

Like the kiwis, I prefer using unsweetened dried mango, but sweetened is always yummy too! If you have a dehydrator, try making your own!

Storage Instructions

Here are some tips to help you maximize the shelf life of your Tropical Hazelnut Trail Mix:

  • Keep stored in a sealable container or bag
  • Vacuum sealing can extend the shelf life by up to three times its normal duration! This is useful if you’re prepping lots for longer term use.
  • Store in a cool, dry and dark place. For longer term storage, it’s recommended to keep stored in the freezer (especially if not vacuum sealed)

When you take these measures, your trail mix can last for several months, up to a few years!
