Prep Time 15 minutes
Dehydrating time 10 hours
Total Time 10 hours 20 minutes

Notable Equipment

  • 1 Dehydrator

Ingredients

  • Pears, any variety

Instructions

  • 1. Wash and peel pears (peeling is optional)
  • 2. Slice, dice or shred pears into the desired size or shape (but no more than 1/4" thick)
  • 3. Optional: lightly coat or spray the pears with lemon juice or an ascorbic acid based product
  • 4. Arrange on a mesh lined dehydrating tray with enough room for air to circulate between the pieces (avoid over lapping as much as possible)
  • 5. Place in dehydrator and dehydrate at 135°F for about 10-12 hours

Notes

  • You can leave the peels on if preferred. Pears with the skin are primarily best for snacking; peeled pears offer more versatility. (Peel-free is better in baking, rubs, for stews, etc.)
  • A mesh liner is recommended for pears - especially if doing shredded or diced (otherwise they will fall through the trays)
  • Dehydrating times may vary (the water content and thickness of the pears, as well as the humidity and altitude of where you live in impact the time)
