How to Dehydrate Feta Cheese

Dehydrated feta cheese adds a rich, tangy flavour and a source of protein to a variety of dishes.  Its long shelf life and concentrated taste make it perfect for camping meals or seasoning blends.

Ingredients
  

  • feta cheese

Instructions

  • 1. Drain brine
  • 2. Crumble or slice into strips or cubes no more than 1/4" thick 
  • 3. Gently pat the pieces with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture
  • 4. Arrange on a mesh lined dehydrating tray with enough room for air to circulate between the pieces (avoid over lapping as much as possible)
  • 5. Place in dehydrator and dehydrate at 135°F for about 8-10 hours

Notes

  • Because of its bacterial cultures, moisture, and fat content, soft cheese is considered a higher-risk ingredient for home dehydrating. While dehydrated cheese can last several months to a year, it’s essential to store it in a cool, dry place and check for any signs of spoilage before use. For added safety and longevity, consider storing it in the refrigerator or freezer until you're ready to use it.
  • A mesh liner is recommended for feta cheese, required if crumbled
  • Dehydrating times may vary (the water and fat content in the cheese, as well as the humidity and altitude of where you live in impact the time)
